The National Science Foundation is conducting a nation‐wide search for the Division Director for the Division of Ocean Sciences.

About the Position
The Director of the Division of Ocean Sciences is responsible for the overall planning, management, and budget for the Division. Managerial and oversight responsibilities include directing activities; assessing needs and trends in ocean science research, education, and infrastructure; developing breakthrough opportunities; implementing overall strategic planning; and providing leadership on implementation of national ocean policy. Division Director responsibilities include coordinating activities with other relevant organizations within NSF, other Federal agencies, community organizations, and international partners. The Division Director leads a staff of nearly 50 senior-level managers, science program directors, facilities operations specialists, and support personnel, and oversees an annual budget of approximately $350 million. The Division Director must possess excellent scientific leadership, administrative, and managerial skills. Appointment to this Senior Executive Service (SES) position may be on a Career or a 1- to 3-year SES limited-term appointment, or under the provisions of the Intergovernmental Personnel Act.

About the Division of Ocean Sciences
NSF funds approximately 75 percent of the federal support for basic ocean research performed at colleges and universities, primarily through the Division of Ocean Sciences. The Division supports research, infrastructure, and education to advance understanding of all aspects of the global ocean, including its interactions with people and the integrated Earth system. The Division works with the U.S. ocean sciences community to direct funding toward advancing the frontiers of knowledge, developing the next generation of
researchers, and enhancing public understanding of ocean sciences. The Division coordinates with other Federal agencies and international partners on research funding and infrastructure management, and participates in development of policy through national and international forums and programs. The Division consists of:
* Ocean Section - Biological, Chemical, & Physical Oceanography
* Marine Geosciences Section - Marine Geology & Geophysics
* Integrative Programs Section - Ocean Education, Technology, Centers, Facilities, & Equipment
