Job Description

Weber State University invites applications for an interdisciplinary
tenure-track position starting Fall 2019. We seek a person with broad
expertise in GIS, Remote Sensing, Cartography, and related Geospatial
Techniques. The successful candidate will join a newly created
interdisciplinary geospatial program (NUGeoTec: www.weber.edu/nugeotec).
This new position provides a tremendous collaborative opportunity (with a
dual appointment in the Geography and Geosciences Departments) to help build
a state-leading, innovative geospatial education program that broadly serves
the university's mission.


Job Duties

The successful candidate is expected to: 1) teach 3-4 lower- and
upper-division geospatial courses per semester in their area(s) of
expertise; 2) establish an active and sustained research program that
informs teaching and compliments existing department specialties; 3) seek
external funding in support of teaching, research, and scholarship; and 4)
establish collaborations with department members, faculty across campus, as
well as research with University and community partners.


Required Qualifications

. A Ph.D. (or one expected by August 2019) in Geographical Science,
Geography, Geosciences, GIS, Cartography, Geodesy, Geomatics, or a closely
related discipline.
. Expertise in geospatial technologies, such as GIS, Remote Sensing, Field
Data Collection (e.g, GNSS), Lidar, Geospatial Programming (i.e. Python),
WebGIS, Spatial Analysis, Cartography/Geovisualization, s-UAS operations,
Database Management, etc.
. Evidence of excellent undergraduate teaching using active-learning
pedagogies.


Preferred Qualifications

. A demonstrated record of scholarship and successful grant acquisition.
. Evidence of collaborations that provide geospatial expertise in support of
other faculty research and teaching, or as a private consultant.
. Expertise in current departmental research and teaching emphases
(sustainability, environmental science, planning, hazards, climate,
development, earth materials and resources, etc.).
. Experience working in industry or with governmental agencies outside of
academia.
. Involvement in building relationships with community partners such as
private industry, local, state, and federal government, and other area
educational institutions.
