MS opportunities in Ocean, Coastal and Environmental Sciences (https://www.utrgv.edu/graduate/for-future-students/graduate-programs/program-requirements/ocean-coastal-and-earth-sciences-ms/index.htm) in the School of Earth, Environmental and Marine Science (https://www.utrgv.edu/seems/) at the new UTRGV Port Isabel Coastal Studies lab near beautiful South Padre Island on the South Texas gulf coast starting in Spring, Summer or Fall 2019. Possible research topics within the field of computational earth system and ocean science include: 1) connectivity and dispersal in the Gulf of Mexico applied to biological and pollutant transport, 2) climate change and extreme forcing events (e.g. nuclear winter) on global ocean productivity and fisheries production. Research includes data analytics of existing model and observational data, and running and analysis of ocean transport and fisheries models.

To apply, please email to Prof. Cheryl Harrison (cheryl.harrison at utrgv.edu<mailto:cheryl.harrison at utrgv.edu>):
* Resume/CV
* Unofficial copy of current transcript
* Statement of interest that includes:
    * academic status, expected graduation date, and target start date
    * brief description of prior research experiences and relevant work experiences
    * motivations and career goals relative to this opportunity
    * list of relevant courses
    * programming and data analysis experience (e.g., python, matlab, unix…)
Students from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. Programming enthusiasm is necessary, but extensive experience is not. Graduate applications are “rolling” for this program, meaning students can apply at any time and be admitted the following term. See link above to the UTRGV graduate program for admission requirements.
