The Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia
seeks graduate students with interests in geomorphology and sedimentology. M.S.
and Ph.D. applications are welcomed from students with related experience
in geosciences, as well as those with training in other quantitative fields
(e.g., computer science, civil engineering, physics) and a desire to tackle
new topics. Student support is available starting Fall 2019 through
teaching assistantships and research assistantships on glacial and fluvial
processes. Potential research topics include but are not limited to
reconstructing
ice sheet retreat and subglacial hydrological processes in Antarctica,
linking fluid dynamics in rivers to landscape evolution, and exploring the
sedimentary record of Mars. The department offers many opportunities to
connect to allied fields that converge at Earth’s surface, including
hydrology, ecology and atmospheric sciences.

Applications submitted by *January 15, 2019 * will receive full
consideration for enrollment in Fall 2019. Interested students should
contact Lauren Simkins (lsimkins at virginia.edu) or Ajay Limaye (
uva at ajaylimaye.com) as soon as possible with a description of research
interests and CV. For more information on the department how to apply,
