Dr. Laura Condon at the University of Arizona is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to develop and test integrated hydrologic simulations of the Continental US. The position is full time with an initial term appointment of one year (12 months), renewable depending on satisfactory performance for a total period of up to 3 years. The start date is negotiable and is available immediately. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.

The project is funded by the Department of Energy through the Interoperable Design of Extreme-scale Application Software (IDEAS) project. The work will involve close collaboration with applied mathematicians and hydrologists at multiple national labs. The post doc will be responsible for advancing the existing continental modeling platform, as well as designing and completing long term simulations to investigate groundwater surface water interactions and watershed function across the US. Research will be completed using high performance computing resources and the postdoc will be expected help develop improved model formulations and pre and post-processing tools. This project also connects to other smaller scale modeling projects, and the postdoc will contribute to workflow development for scaling analysis and model coupling.

Strong applicants should have experience with numerical modeling of hydrologic systems, coding and data handling, as well as strong communication skills. Experience with high performance computing and software development is also desirable.

More information on the IDEAS project can be found here: https://ideas-productivity.org/ideas-classic/use-cases/ <https://ideas-productivity.org/ideas-classic/use-cases/> (The post doc would work on ‘Use Case 3’). Additionally, applicants can refer to Dr. Condon’s webpage or Google scholar profile for publications on the current continental modeling platform.

To apply please contact Dr. Condon by email: lecondon at email.arizona.edu <mailto:lecondon at email.arizona.edu>. Please provide (1) a letter of interest describing relevant skills and experience, (2) a CV including list of publication and (3) the names and contact information for three references.
