UTAH, SALT LAKE CITY 84112-9155. University of Utah. The Department of
Geography invites applications for an Assistant Professor of GISposition
starting 1 July 2019.

We are seeking a Geographic Information Scientist with expertise in one or
more of the following research areas: cyber GIS, geovisualization, big
data, knowledge discovery, artificial intelligence, machine learning,
software/application development, and/or spatial modeling and analysis.
Other computational GISc-based research areas may be acceptable. Successful
candidates would be able to teach advanced courses in GIS, WebGIS,
cartography/geovisualization, GIS programming, big data/cloud computing,
and other courses in their specialization area.

Competitive candidates will have a strong research record reflected in
journal publications, conference presentations, and external funding. The
ability to collaborate with faculty within the Department of Geography and
participate in interdisciplinary research at the University of Utah is a
priority. Demonstrated skills in student mentoring are highly desirable.

The Department of Geography at the University of Utah emphasizes
scientific, quantitative geography within the focus areas of urban/economic
systems, Earth systems science, human-environmental geography and
geographic information science. The department offers BS, MS, and PhD
Geography degrees, as well as BS and MS GISdegrees. The department is a
national Center of Academic Excellence in Geospatial Sciences and is home
to the Digitally Integrated Geographic Information Technologies (DIGIT) Lab
which provides support for both theoretical and applied geographic
information analysis and application development. The department is housed
in the brand new Gardner Commons building with beautiful classrooms,
