Overview


NRDC is a leading nonprofit environmental organization that has been
marshaling science and the law to protect the environment and health since
1970. NRDC engages in litigation, lobbying, scientific research, and public
education on  air, water, public health, climate change, energy,
environmental justice, oceans, public land, smart growth, international,
urban, and wildlife issues. NRDC has more than four hundred advocates
(lawyers, scientists, legislative experts, and others) and offices in San
Francisco; Santa Monica; New York; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Montana; and

Position Summary:

 

NRDC is seeking a Research Associate with the American Cities Climate
Challenge (ACCC) in the Healthy People and Thriving Communities program. The
American Cities Climate Challenge is an unprecedented opportunity for 20
ambitious cities to significantly deepen and accelerate their efforts to
tackle climate change and promote a sustainable future for their residents.
The Research Associate will conduct individual technical, policy, and other
research activities for staff, technical partners, and cities to inform the
development of policies and programs in the areas of buildings and/or
transportation. Additionally, this position will provide day-to-day support
on other Challenge activities.

Responsibilities


*	General Research: Research, collect, and synthesize information
relevant to energy efficiency, renewable energy, electric vehicles,
mobility, and/or climate advocacy positions.  
*	Resource Development and Communications: Develop user-friendly and
tailored resources such as factsheets, presentations, and infographics for
cities.
*	Technical Analysis: In coordination with Lead Technical Strategists,
analyze technical issues or quantitative data to support the Challenge's
objectives.
*	General Project Support: Support Lead Technical Strategists and City
Engagement Managers to meet the needs of partners and the cities.


Qualifications


*	Bachelors degree in a related field; Master's degree preferred
*	1-3 years of related experience with city policy, clean energy,
transportation, or climate advocacy
*	A demonstrated ability to synthesize technical information and
communicate to non-expert audiences
*	Excellent writing skills, strong verbal communication, and advanced
power point presentation skills
*	Ability to work independently and on quick timelines, managing
multiple workstreams
*	Quantitative or technical skills such as ArcGIS, Excel, data
modeling, and/or infographic design experience preferred
*	Ability to participate in teams that work collaboratively towards
shared outcomes
