The Institute for Geophysics and Meteorology (IGMK), University of
Cologne, Germany invites applications for a

*PhD position (3yrs) on Polarimetric Cloud Radar Observations of Ice
Microphysical Processes*

The PhD project is part of the project PROM-IMPRINT (“Understanding Ice
Microphysical Processes by combining multi-frequency radar polarimetry
and super-particle modelling”) as part of the DFG Priority Programme
2115 „Fusion of Radar Polarimetry and Numerical Atmospheric Modelling
Towards an Improved Understanding of Cloud and Precipitation Processes“
(PROM, see https://www2.meteo.uni-bonn.de/spp2115 for more information).

We seek a motivated and talented student who is enthusiastic about
performing field work and data analysis of novel polarimetric
ground-based radar observations of ice microphysical processes. The
candidate should be eager to work together with our modelling partners
in the project and to develop strategies how the observed fingerprints
can be used to evaluate and guide new developments of ice microphysical
parameterizations.

The PhD student will become part of the Young-Researcher (Emmy-Noether)
group OPTIMIce at IGMK. Please see the attached pdf or visit our group
homepage (_http://www.geomet.uni-koeln.de/forschung/en-optimice/_) for
further details regarding the position and how to apply.

Kind regards,

Stefan Kneifel
