The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami invites applications for an Assistant Scientist position in the area of Atmospheric Sciences.

The incumbent will be responsible for setting up and/or maintaining a repository version of the FV3GFS model or its next generation variant in our NOAA High Performance Computing System. Contribute towards the development, porting and modification of the code as required for our research purposes specifically geared towards product generation and evaluation. The incumbent will also assist other scientists in the group with the development of techniques for evaluating the performance of these models compared with observations collected at the Hurricane Research Division as a part of their annual field program, as well as other observational platforms, and using these evaluations to improve the models. Other activities may include assisting in conducting investigations, on processes important in tropical cyclone intensity and structure changes.

Qualifications:
* Must have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, or related physical sciences.
* At least one year of relevant postdoctoral experience. We encourage motivated individuals with strong background in Numerical Modeling and/or Model dynamics and/or Model Analysis and/or Numerical Weather Prediction of TCs to apply.
* Some skills in analyzing large scale fields relevant to the tropics and experience with visualization are highly desirable.
* Some experience in handling/merging Fortran programs within the FV3GFS system and proven skill sets in analyzing large model outputs may be a big plus point.
* The position is for one year and may be extended to second year based on satisfactory performance.
