Summary of Position

The solar-heliospheric research group in the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans and Space (EOS) and the Department of Physics at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) is seeking an exceptional candidate to fill a postdoctoral research scientist position in the field of computational space physics with an emphasis on turbulence and particle acceleration. The appointment is expected to start in January 2018, although earlier or later start dates can be negotiated. The main responsibility of this position is to update and develop numerical models and conduct simulations to study the acceleration of ions to suprathermal energies in association with turbulence, compressions and shocks. We seek candidates with experience in hybrid or particle-in-cells (PIC) simulations of space plasma. A PhD in physics or related fields is required. The initial appointment will be for two years with possible renewal for one additional year. The post-doctoral researcher will join a team working on the acceleration of suprathermal ions that include Profs. Phil Isenberg, Harald Kucharek, Marty Lee, Noé Lugaz, Nathan Schwadron, Charles Smith and Bernard Vasquez at UNH and Mihir Desai at SwRI.
Review of complete applications will commence on October 16, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled. Inquiries about the position should be addressed to Prof. Noé Lugaz at noe.lugaz at unh.edu. Applicants should submit their application electronically as a single PDF document in the following order - cover letter, CV including publication list, and the names and contact information of at least three references - to noe.lugaz at unh.edu.
