The Department of Geosciences at the University of Arizona is pleased to announce the opening of two tenure-track faculty positions:
(1) Marine Geosciences
We seek a highly creative scientist with interests in modern marine processes and applications to the geological record. The candidate is expected to serve in a leadership role supervising research activities at the Biosphere 2 ocean, a unique experimental facility for understanding geological, biological and oceanographic processes in a controlled environment and testing future oceanographic technologies, and to provide intellectual direction for future research applications across all disciplines in the B2 ocean. The candidate is also expected to be an active member of the Geosciences Department, with a vigorous research agenda in any aspect of marine geosciences, including but not limited to biogeochemical processes, paleoclimatology, paleobiology, coral reef research, marine sedimentary systems and marine mineral chemistry. The successful candidate will have access to the world-class instrumental/analytical facilities available in the Geosciences Department. We are particularly eager to identify candidates with interests in collaborating with other members of the Geosciences Department. The position is open to applicants at any rank. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses related to marine geosciences. More information and details of the application process are available at https://uacareers.com/postings/23446. Inquiries about the position should be sent to Dr. Andrew Cohen, Chair of the Search Committee, Department of Geosciences, University of Arizona cohen at email.arizona.edu<mailto:cohen at email.arizona.edu>.
(2) Paleoclimatology, Paleoceanography, or Paleoecology
We seek a creative scientist with research interests in one or more of the following fields: paleoclimatology, paleoceanography, paleoecology, or paleobiology. In particular, we welcome individuals that use field- or laboratory-based geochemical, biological, or ecological techniques to develop quantitative records of past climate and environmental change and/or life’s responses to that history. The ideal candidate will use the geological record of past climate and environmental change to make fundamental inferences about paleogeography and/or the Earth’s climate system, enhancing existing strengths in climate, paleoclimate, tectonics, and paleontology in the Department. In addition, we seek a candidate that can interface with the strong cross-disciplinary initiatives at the University of Arizona that focus on climate change, sustainability, and water resources. The position is open to applicants at any rank. The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses related to their research expertise (e.g., climate, oceanography, paleoclimate, paleoecology, paleontology). More information and details of the application process are available at https://uacareers.com/postings/23447. Inquiries about the position should be sent to Dr. Jessica Tierney, Chair of the Search Committee, Department of Geosciences, University of Arizona jesst at email.arizona.edu<mailto:jesst at email.arizona.edu>
Evaluation of applications for both positions will begin Jan. 1, 2018 and will continue until filled. The Department of Geosciences seeks faculty who promote diversity in research, education and outreach, and who have experience with a variety of collaborative, teaching and curricular perspectives. The University of Arizona is a committed Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Institution. Women, minorities, veterans and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply. The Department of Geosciences supports Inclusive Excellence, the University diversity strategic initiative designed to engage every member of the university community in diversity and inclusiveness.
