We are hiring a technician in the Harms biogeochemistry & ecosystems lab at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The technician will perform analytical chemistry, maintain instream sensors, and carry out field work in streams and watersheds. Current research foci in the lab include quantifying ecological regimes in the boreal forest using high-frequency data in streams, predicting changes to the nitrogen cycle following degrading permafrost, and understanding the effects of hydrology and nitrogen cycling on food chain length in aridland streams (harmslab.org).

The research technician's primary roles will be to oversee an analytical facility focused on water chemistry and to conduct field work in both Alaska and Arizona. Lab-based duties include training lab users and performing chemical analyses. Field-based duties include deployment and maintenance of water quality sensors for monitoring nitrate, dissolved organic matter, and dissolved oxygen; and measuring whole-stream metabolism and nutrient uptake in streams. The technician will also assist with data archival and analysis.
