 Dear Colleagues,

I'd like to call your attention to a posting for a postdoctoral appointee
in our department. The primary role of this postdoctoral appointee will be
to work on parameterizations of ice nucleation on dust in an atmospheric
general circulation model. Please forward to anyone you think would be
interested in applying. The posting will stay open through January, 2018
to advertise at AGU and AMS. I've put this information on a PDF document
(attached) to make distribution easier.

About Our Team

The staff in the Atmospheric Sciences Department (8863) at Sandia National
Labs have expertise in atmospheric measurements and modeling. Technical
activities cover the spectrum from theory to application, including
algorithm development, computer modeling, data inversion, instrumentation
and measurement systems development, field demonstration, field campaign
execution, and field site management. Particular expertise exists in the
measurement and modeling of atmospheric processes in the Arctic including
the use of unmanned aerial vehicles such as small fixed wing and rotary
aircraft and tethered balloons, as well as the use and cold hardening of
measurement systems such as radar and lidar. The department serves as a
Laboratories resource for atmospheric sensing expertise.

What Your Job Will Be Like
The Atmospheric Sciences Department is seeking a postdoctoral research
associate to work on projects related to global earth system models and
global climate models for researching dust aerosols. We are interested in
developing and using these models to improve our understanding of
atmospheric process of ice nucleation on dust as it relates to laboratory

On any given day, you may be called on to:

   - Work to improve the representation of ice nucleation on dust aerosols
   in highly complex climate models that are typically employed at the
   Department of Energy’s Leadership Class supercomputing facilities;
   - Seek opportunities to expand your research portfolio in a wide variety
   of applications that include, but are not limited to, earth system
   modeling, regional climate modeling, and uncertainty quantification;
   - Work under the supervision of one or more research staff and
   collaborate with other researchers at Sandia, other national laboratories,
   and in academia.
