CALL FOR CANDIDATES:
A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR CIESM YOUNG SCIENTISTS TO TAKE PART IN AN
OCEANOGRAPHIC CAMPAIGN ON BOARD OF THE ITALIAN RESEARCH VESSEL OGS EXPLORA
Next June, a two weeks oceanographic campaign organized by OGS on board of
the R/V OGS Explora will take place in the Central Mediterranean Sea to
acquire new geophysical data. The objective of the campaign is to
investigate the sea-bottom and the sub-seafloor of Sicily Channel, Ionian
Sea and Gulf of Taranto to search for seismogenic faults that may be
responsible to cause submarine failures and other marine geoharzards.
Multibeam echosounder, high-resolution seismic and sub-bottom profiling
will be carried out under the framework of the FASTMIT flagship project.
Target countries are members of the Scientific Commission for Exploration
in the Mediterranean Sea (CIESM). OGS will financially support 2 CIESM
young scientists from the Southern Mediterranean countries.

7th -13th - June I Leg (Trapani - Crotone). Chief scientist Emanuele Lodolo

Note that the date of the second leg are to be confirmed!

Where:
The campaign will start in Trapani (Sicily) will acquire geophysical data
in the Sicily channel, then will continue across the Ionian Sea, in the
Gulf of Taranto, with a port call in Crotone to change staff and equipment
(Italy)

Who is eligible:
Young scientists, researchers, Ph.D. students and Early-stage researchers
coming from Mediterranean and Black Sea countries that are member of the
Scientific Commission for Exploration in the Mediterranean Sea (CIESM).
Grants will be awarded to applicants from CIESM Southern Mediterranean
countries. OGS encourages women candidates to apply. Selected candidates
will be granted fellowships covering their expenses for travel and
accommodation.

Deadline for application
A Personal CV accompanied by a motivation letter should be sent before
Friday 26th May 2017 at 17:00 to the attention of Giorgia Rivoira at this
