*PhD/doctoral Student *
Title: Organic matter protection through mineral interactions in soil

As part of an international collaboration between the Technical University
Munich, Germany, its Institute of Advanced Studies, and Cornell University,
USA, the incumbent will investigate organic matter dynamics in soil.
The focus of the research is the investigation of the role of ultra-small
scale distribution for the protection of organic matter conferred by
adsorption or co-precipitation with different minerals in natural and
experimental systems.
The research will utilize high-resolution imagery of isotope and functional
group distribution.

The incumbent will work towards a doctoral degree at the Technical
University Munich, Germany, but is expected to spend a certain amount of
time at Cornell University, USA, for specialized microscopic analyses.
The project is funded by the TUM Institute of Advanced Study for three
years and provides a salary of 75 % of German TVL E13 scheme (approx. EUR
1600.- per month/net) together with health and social security benefits.
Requirements: Diploma or Masters in soil, environmental or earth sciences,
environmental chemistry, chemistry or physics with interest and some
knowledge in soil science,
experience with spectroscopic and microscopic techniques, and strong
quantitative skills.

*Review of applications will commence May 1*, but will continue to be
accepted until the position is filled.
The position is for three years, starting August 1, 2016 (negotiable).

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, names and contact details of
three references *in a single pdf file*.
Please submit applications electronically to: Ingrid Kögel-Knabner, email:
