About the role



The successful candidate would learn our business and then work on and
initiate projects relating to wind, flood, or earthquake hazard and risk
evaluation.   Our responsibility lies within the Americas, North, Central
and specific to this position - Latin America.   Accordingly an
understanding of the local market and its insurance culture in addition to
the seismicity, atmospheric hazards, climate, hydrological or other local
conditions of this region is important.  Aside from fluency in Spanish or
Portuguese the successful candidate must have strong English communication
skills.  In addition a successful candidate would also need good to strong
data management skills including experience with certain programming or
statistical applications such as MatLab.  This position will also be
responsible on many global collaborative projects with and led by other
Swiss Re experts located in Zurich, Bangalore and Armonk.  It is expect
that 25% of the time this position will be involved in Research and
Development with the remaining 75% being devoted to local support,
marketing and relations.



Essential Responsibilities

   -

   Understand and evaluate the natural hazards associated with Central and
   South America
   -

   Expertise in natural science or structural engineering
   -

   Provide client support directed at quantifying natural hazard loss
   exposure on an event and probabilistic approach
   -

   Assist or leads in developing new products/tools/technology for natural
   catastrophe risk transfer and evaluation
   -

   Act as a liaison between the Latin American markets, science, and Swiss
   Re
   -

   Problem solving and analysis



Technical Skills:

   -

    Sound understanding of at least one of the following, atmospheric
   science, hydrology, seismology or structural engineering.
   -

   GIS knowledge, preferably with ESRI software.
   -

   Ability to handle complex database and spreadsheet applications.
   -

   An advanced degree in atmospheric science, meteorology, hydrology,
   seismology, engineering or an advanced degree in a natural science
   discipline with good quantitative skills.
   -

    Demonstrated superior problem recognition/definition, analytical and
   solving skills
   -

   Good in mathematics or statistics
   -

   Fair PC and software skills ( SQL and Matlab)
   -

   Excellent Spanish and English verbal and written communication and
   client presentation skills
   -

   Demonstrated ability to make decisions utilizing sound judgment
   -

   Strong willingness to work in a team as well as work independently
   -

   Able to effectively manage own time and priorities
   -

   Highly motivated individual
   -
