> The Climate Health and Air Quality Lab, in the Department of Environmental Sciences & Engineering, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, seeks two new Postdoctoral Researchers to contribute to funded projects addressing air pollution and health impact modeling. The CHAQ Lab (www.unc.edu/~jjwest/chaq.html <http://www.unc.edu/~jjwest/chaq.html>) conducts interdisciplinary research addressing the intersections of air pollution, climate change, energy, and health, involving atmospheric science and policy analysis.
>
> The Postdoctoral Researchers sought here will contribute substantially to one or more of these projects, funded by grants from NASA, NSF, and EPA:
> 1) Global mapping of ozone surface concentrations based on model output and surface observations, for the purposes of assessing global ozone health effects;
> 2) Using model output to assess trends in the health impacts of air pollution in the US;
> 3) Modeling the impacts of emissions and land use change on regional meteorology and air quality in Africa; and/or
> 4) Modeling the impacts of climate change on air quality in the US through downscaling of meteorology and air quality.
>
> The preferred candidates will have a Doctoral degree in Atmospheric Science, Environmental Engineering, Public Health, or a closely related field. The preferred candidates will have good computer skills, including working with large codes and datasets. Ideally, the candidates would have a strong background in atmospheric modeling, particularly using the WRF and/or CMAQ models. Experience in geospatial statistics and health impact assessment is also beneficial, as is experience and interest in interdisciplinary research in the areas the CHAQ lab focuses on.
