> Postdoctoral position: Watershed Hydrology and Biogeochemistry in
Permafrost Landscapes

>
> Summary: A postdoctoral position is available within the Earth and
Environmental Sciences (EES) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory
(LANL) to work in the areas of observational and/or experimental hydrology
and biogeochemistry of permafrost watersheds. Successful applicants will
participate in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary, multi-institution
research program doing fundamental research to inform improvements of the
representation of Arctic terrestrial processes in Earth System Models.
Research activities include the development and application of isotopic and
biogeochemical tools to quantify sources, transport pathways and sinks of
water, soil, carbon and nutrients through permafrost landscapes. Field
experience in remote areas is an asset, and we encourage applicants who can
work across disciplines and draw upon diverse data sets and analytical and
computational techniques to study linkages between land surface and
subsurface processes, as well as ecohydrology.

> Minimum Job Requirements:
>
> • Experience developing and applying isotopic and other
geochemical collection, analysis and modeling techniques to understand
hydrological and/or biogeochemical sources, pathways and processes in
watersheds.
>
> • Demonstrated ability to plan and safely execute strenuous
field work in harsh weather conditions; ability to carry heavy pack loads.
>
> • Demonstrated ability to publish peer-reviewed papers,
effective written and oral communication skills, willingness to work in a
team environment, ability to work within prescribed safety, security and
personal conduct protocols.

> Desired skills:
>
> • Experience in Arctic field research especially permafrost
hydrology and active layer biogeochemistry.
>
> • Numerical modeling experience using tracers, isotopes, or
with geochemical codes (e.g., PHREEQC). Statistical data analysis tools.
>
>
> Education: Ph.D. requirements by commencement of the appointment and be
within 5 years of completion of the Ph.D.
