TheCollegeofNaturalandAgriculturalSciencesatUCRisrecruitingafacultymemberattheassistant,associate,orfullprofessorlevel 
intheareaofextrasolarplanetsandrelatedsearchesforhabitabilityandlife.Thepositionwillbeavailableatthebeginningofthe2017-18 
academicyear.

Weseektohireacandidatewithexpertiseinthedetectionofexoplanetsusingthefullarrayofavailabletechniquesaswellasdiversemethodsforplanetary 
characterizationandhoststarrelationships—alldirectedtowardassessmentsofpotentialhabitability.Wearelookingforanestablishedtrackrecordworkinginandleadinglargeteamscenteredaroundbothground-andspace-basedtelescopeswithemphasisthatincludesobservationalandtheoreticalperspectivesaimedtowardterrestrialplanets;habitablezones;relatedorbitalparameters;biosignatures;geosignaturesofplanetaryprocesses,suchasvolcanism;surfaceproperties;andatmospheredetectionandcharacterizationgenerally.Theresearchershouldbewellpoisedforleadershipinongoing 
andnextgenerationtelescopes(e.g.,Kepler,JWST,TESS,WFIRST),includingspectroscopicmethodsofdirectimaging,andshouldhaveaprovenrecordinmulti-disciplinarysciencewithinandcomplementarytotheNASAandESAmissioncommunities.Thesuccessfulcandidatewillbeexpectedtobridgewithastronomers,earthscientists,andastrobiologistsatUCRandparticipateinboththeundergraduateandgraduateprogramsoftherelevantdepartments.ThecandidatewillbecomeamajorpartofthenewlyestablishedAlternativeEarthsAstrobiologyCenter(astrobiology.ucr.edu)andoffercoursesinastrobiology,planetaryscience,andothertopicsrelatedtoexoplanetsandtheirpotentialhabitability.ThesuccessfulcandidatewillhavefullaccesstofacilitiesattheUniversityofCaliforniaObservatories,includingtheKeckTelescopesandtheLickObservatory.PotentialhomedepartmentsareEarthSciencesandPhysics 
& Astronomy.

APh.D.inastronomyorarelatedsciencedisciplineisrequired.Forseniorcandidates,experienceinobtainingexternalfundingisrequired.Forjuniorcandidates,preferencewillbegiventocandidateswhohaveexperienceinfellowshipand/orgrantwriting.Tenuretrack 
assistant professorapplicants areexpected to
