Postdoctoral Researcher in Marine Microbiology and Metagenomics

The Santoro Lab <https://labs.eemb.ucsb.edu/santoro/alyson/> at the Marine Science Institute (MSI) of the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to work on the diversity of transporter proteins in uncultivated marine microbes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in bioinformatics including the analysis of metagenomic data and phylogenomics. The postdoc will work collaboratively as part of an international team involving researchers from the University of Exeter in the UK. The position will involve international travel; a valid passport or a willingness to obtain one is required.


Basic qualifications: Ph.D. in microbiology, ecology, evolution, marine science, or a related field. Extensive experience with one or more programming languages and analysis of large nucleic acid sequence datasets.


Additional qualifications: Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.


Preferred qualifications: Experience with molecular biology wet laboratory techniques, including qPCR. Experience with protein structure prediction. Some prior experience with marine systems is also desirable.


Salary and benefits will depend on academic background and experience. 100% time appointment for one year from start date with possibility of annual renewal.
