Michigan State University seeks an experienced, collaborative, and
visionary leader for the position of Dean of the College of Natural
Science. Michigan State University is one of the world's leading public,
research intensive, land-grant institutions. It enrolls over 50,000 diverse
students in seventeen colleges, including 11,400 graduate students, employs
a diverse workforce of more than 11,000 faculty and staff, and has
approximately 541,000 living alumni worldwide. The beautiful 5,200-acre
campus is located in East Lansing, Michigan, adjacent to the state capital
and an hour from suburban Detroit.

The College of Natural Science (CNS) comprises 28 departments, programs,
and centers in the biological, physical, and mathematical sciences. The
College averages $28 million in research expenditures annually while
providing outstanding education opportunities to more than 5,000
undergraduate and 1,000 graduate students. There are approximately 325
faculty and staff associated with the College and more than 40,000 living
alumni. CNS faculty conduct research at or manage an impressive number of
world-class scientific facilities, including the National Superconducting
Cyclotron Laboratory, the SOAR 4.5m telescope in Chile, the MSU Department
of Energy (DOE) Plant Research Laboratory, the Center for Microbial
Ecology, the BEACON Center for the Study of Evolution in Action, and other
core research infrastructure facilities. CNS provides instruction in the
natural sciences for all MSU undergraduates and offers programs of study
leading to B.A., B.S., M.A., M.S., M.A.T., and Ph.D. degrees.

The Dean of CNS is the chief academic officer of the College and is
responsible to the Provost and the President for its general
administration. The Dean provides leadership and vision in strategic
planning and implementation of programs in addition to advancing College
development activities. Michigan State University seeks a Dean with high
academic standards, outstanding record of scholarship, demonstrated
commitment to diversity, ability to advocate effectively for the College to
local, national, and international constituencies, and strong willingness
to collaborate across disciplinary boundaries to set and implement College
and University priorities. Qualifications include an earned doctorate, or
the equivalent, a record appropriate to appointment as Professor (with
tenure) in a College department, relevant administrative experience, and
evidence of significant international stature in a discipline within the
natural sciences.
