*Postdoctoral Fellow positions in tropical climate research *

We planning to fill three postdoctoral positions in the newly established
research team “*Tropical climate dynamics: past, present, future*” led by
Dr. Malte Stuecker (www.maltestuecker.com) at the IBS Center for Climate
Physics (ICCP), Pusan National University (http://iccp.ibs.re.kr), South
Korea.

The IBS Center for Climate Physics (ICCP), directed by Dr. Axel Timmermann,
is dedicated to advancing the understanding of natural climate variability,
man-made climate change and their impacts on the hydrological cycle,
regional processes, ice-sheets, and sea level. The ICCP is generously
funded through the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) (http://ibs.re.kr).

Applicants for these positions should have a PhD in physical oceanography,
atmospheric science, climate dynamics, or a related field. Postdoctoral
Fellows are expected to have strong computational skills, a solid
publication record, a high level of independence and creativity, and an
interest in working in an international and interdisciplinary research
environment. Our tropical climate research team studies modes of climate
variability (such as ENSO, decadal variability, Monsoon systems), global
teleconnections and their sensitivities to past and future climate change.
Furthermore, we are interested in the question of which sea surface
temperature and precipitation patterns will emerge in response to
anthropogenic forcing and the greater role of tropical climate in the Earth
system.

Postdoctoral fellows will receive a competitive salary, support for
conference travel, access to a 1 Pflop supercomputer, as well as benefits
and incentives.

Employer: IBS Center for Climate Physics
Location: Pusan National University, Busan, South Korea
Education Level: PhD
Job type: Postdoctoral Fellow
Term: Full Time, 2 year, with possibility for renewal
Start date of positions: Summer 2018 or later

ICCP is located in Busan, the second largest city in South Korea and the
ninth largest port city in the world. Surrounded by ocean and mountains,
the city has a dramatic natural background, and the multitude of
neighborhoods in Busan each have a distinct character. From designer cafes
and casual bars to temples at the end of hiking trails, and good food at
every place imaginable, Busan has something for everyone and is
characterized by relatively low living costs.

Please submit a cover letter, a short statement of your research interests,
curriculum vitae, the name of 2 references, and up to three publications to
Ms Jenny Choi (hahadaye at pusan.ac.kr ). If you have any further questions
regarding these positions, please contact Malte Stuecker (
malte.stuecker at gmail.com) or Axel Timmermann (timmermann at pusan.ac.kr ).
