Tenure-track Faculty Position in Airborne Atmospheric Research

Department of Atmospheric Science

University of Wyoming

The Department of Atmospheric Science at the University of Wyoming invites applications for an academic year (9-month) tenure-track faculty position that focuses on airborne atmospheric research. The Department operates a King Air research aircraft, which is supported by the National Science Foundation as a national lower atmospheric observing facility. Our intent is to fill this position at the Assistant Professor level, although hiring at a more senior level will be considered.

The successful candidate will join the Department in its endeavor to understand atmospheric processes through airborne observations and modeling, and will demonstrate ability to develop and fund an active research program, building on infrastructure and expertise in engineering and airborne science within the Department.

The Department is one of seven in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, concentrating principally on research and graduate education, with strengths in the study of precipitation, cloud and aerosol physics, trace gas chemistry, and cloud-scale and global climate modeling. The Department faculty and staff are recognized international leaders in airborne observations. In recent years, we have pioneered the development and use of airborne cloud radars, cloud lidars, and Raman lidars. Our core facilities, in addition to the King Air, include the Keck Aerosol Laboratory and the Mobile Air Quality Laboratory. The University of Wyoming has privileged access to the NCAR Wyoming Supercomputer Center.
