The Department of Geography at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level in Physical Geography. A Ph.D. in Geography or related field is required by the time of appointment. The appointment begins August 15, 2018. We seek to hire an assistant professor of physical geography with a research focus on surface water processes, fluvial geomorphology, and river responses to environmental change. This physical geographer will combine field and/or lab-based research with geospatial modeling techniques to understand processes governing the movement of water, sediment and nutrients through river systems. The applicant should be an Earth scientist with training and experience in fluvial-hydraulic processes, sediment transport, geomorphology, and quantitative methods, including numerical modeling methods and/or GIS. In addition, because society is dependent on healthy river systems, we seek a candidate whose work is relevant to broader societal issues. The successful candidate must have demonstrable strength and interest in teaching hydrology and geomorphology at all levels, and in contributing to the Graduate Program in Hydrological Sciences. The normal teaching load is three classes per year, including a large introductory physical geography course on Landscapes and Water. The successful candidate is expected to be effective in raising external research funding.
