Postdoc: Deep-Sea Coral Population Genomics – Lehigh U – Deadline May 12

A position for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Coral Population
Genomics is available in the laboratory of Dr. Santiago Herrera at the
Department of Biological Sciences, Lehigh University (Bethlehem,
Pennsylvania).

The postdoc will work on a collaborative project that aims to quantify
population connectivity in deep-sea and mesophotic coral species from the
Gulf of Mexico through the integration of field sampling, state-of-the-art
population genomic analyses and physical oceanographic modeling approaches.
This multidisciplinary project involves collaborations with the groups of
Drs. Andrea Quattrini (Harvey Mudd College), Annalisa Bracco (Georgia
Institute of Technology), Peter Etnoyer (NOAA), and Erik Cordes (Temple
University).

The Lehigh-based postdoc will assist in the collection of specimens during
multi-week oceanographic cruises using remotely operated submersible
vehicles. The postdoc will be responsible for generating and analyzing
multi-species RAD-seq datasets, leading the integration of population
genetic results with larval dispersal models, and disseminating results via
peer-reviewed publications, reports, and presentations at international
scientific conferences and professional meetings. The postdoc will also
have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate students and become involved
in other ongoing projects. The successful candidate will be expected to
develop additional project ideas in collaboration with the PI and seek
additional funding, providing opportunities for disciplinary and
cross-disciplinary career development and networking.

Candidates should have completed a PhD in a topic relevant to the described
project (or expect to complete by July 2017). Required qualifications
include expertise and experience with Next Generation Sequencing datasets
and population genetic analyses. Candidates should demonstrate excellent
written and verbal communication skills, a good record of publications, and
capacity to work collaboratively as part of a team. Desired qualifications
include expertise in library preparation, proficiency in R and python,
sea-going experience, and familiarity with deep-sea coral species.

The position is available for two years, starting in July of 2017, with the
possibility of extension depending on additional funding. Please email a CV
including contact information for 3 references, a cover letter describing
your research experience, career goals and fit for the position, and 2-3
copies of representative publications, to Dr. Santiago Herrera (
santiago.herrera at lehigh.edu), ATTN: Postdoc Search. Applications received
by May 12 will receive full consideration.
