The Department of Geology at Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in hydrogeoscience at the level of assistant professor to support the teaching of an intensive, senior-level hydrogeology course for geology majors and environmental science students. The preferred candidate will have field and teaching experience in groundwater monitoring, testing and data analysis. The successful candidate will be expected to use the ASU Educational Wellfield in teaching the hydrogeology laboratory. Additional teaching responsibilities may include an introductory course such as physical geology, environmental geology, or hydrology, with other courses possible based on applicant’s specialty and student demand. The service component will complement the university's commitment to sustainability, possibly through participation in and development of public outreach and/or community engagement programs.

We seek a hydrogeoscientist with research expertise in the broad area of groundwater resources. Potential areas of expertise include (but are not limited to): hydrogeophysics, vadose zone hydrology, biochemical hydrogeology, and engineering hydrogeology.  The successful candidate should complement the present group of hydrogeoscientists (a physical hydrogeologist and hydrogeochemist).  The candidate should have a PhD at the time of appointment and must possess a strong commitment to both undergraduate education and field-based research.
