The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites
applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in
cryospheric sciences.

Researchers at Lamont work to understand the dynamics of the Earth's
chemical, physical and biological systems, from the core to the upper
atmosphere, including Earth¹s interactions with human society. Our
scientists lead research in the fields of solid Earth dynamics; ocean,
atmospheric and climate systems; cryospheric sciences; paleoclimate and
biogeoscience.

*Main responsibilities:*

To conduct research using existing ice-penetrating radar datasets and
physics-based mathematical modelling to understand the flow of ice
sheets. Available data include ground-based and airborne ice-penetrating
radar data from East and West Antarctica. These data have been collected
by researchers at Lamont-Doherty, the British Antarctic Survey (BAS),
and NASA Operation Ice Bridge. The successful applicant will be
encouraged to develop research ideas aimed at analyzing these data with
the aid of mathematical techniques, including modelling of ice flow and
radar-wave propagation.

*Experience and qualifications:*

A PhD in Glaciology, Geography, Earth Sciences, Geophysics, Applied
Mathematics, Physics or a related discipline. Excellent programming and
mathematical skills, and some experience analyzing and interpreting
ice-penetrating radar are desirable. Evidence of the ability to conduct
and publish high quality research is also desirable.

Appointment will be for 1 year, with continuation pending funding and
