PhD student opportunity in geology at the University of Oklahoma.

We are seeking applicants for a PhD student position at the University of Oklahoma (Norman, OK) to work on a joint project led by Dr. Megan Elwood Madden (low-temperature geochemistry), and Dr. Lynn Soreghan (sedimentary geology and paleoclimatology). This research will investigate geochemical and sedimentological aspects of weathering in recent sediments from Antarctic and similar glacial environments, aimed at ultimately investigating implications for global carbon cycling.

Applicants should be highly motivated PhD student researchers able to work both independently and in a team setting, and have the skills necessary to analyze complex data sets. The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to education and outreach activities, present results at scientific conferences, and publish results in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Requirements: MS in relevant field (e.g., geological and/or geochemical sciences). Fieldwork experience in geological sciences and laboratory research experience in geochemistry and is desirable, as is experience in, or willingness to learn quantitative analytical approaches, including X-ray Powder Diffraction, geochemical modeling, and statistical analyses.

Interested students should apply to the OU Graduate program in geology, and note Drs Elwood Madden and Soreghan on their application. For more information, contact either one of us (melwood at ou.edu<mailto:melwood at ou.edu>, or lsoreg at ou.edu<mailto:lsoreg at ou.edu>).
