Department Chair – Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering 
The George Mason University Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering invites applications for the position of Department Chair. Responsibilities:

The Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering is seeking a highly accomplished individual to lead the department in achieving continued excellence and national and international recognition, and to further encourage existing collaborations with academic and governmental institutions, including U.S. Geological Survey, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Turner Fairbank Labs, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Institute for Water Resources (IWR), Department of Defense Army and Navy Research Labs, NASA, NOAA, and the research branches of Virginia’s state agencies. The incumbent will be expected to mentor junior faculty and to work collaboratively to promote the collective interests of 13 full time faculty, 30 adjunct faculty and 400 students. This position will work to strengthen partnerships with industry, and relationships with alumni and other constituents. The individual will also have the opportunity to recruit new faculty and guide the department’s future growth, which is anticipated to be very significant. 

Qualifications:

Must have an earned doctorate in civil engineering or closely aligned field, and be eligible for a tenured appointment at the rank of full professor;
Should have an outstanding research and publication record, as well as a commitment to excellence in both undergraduate and graduate education; and
Should have appropriate administrative experience, including fostering interdisciplinary research/education; and mentoring students, faculty and staff.

The Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering offers the M.S., M.Eng., and Ph.D., in addition to an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)-accredited B.S. degree. During the last five years, the department has experienced tremendous growth in new research awards and enrollment. Total enrollment across all degrees has risen to more than 400 students. The Volgenau School of Engineering is committed to significant investment in the expansion of the department faculty, and to double the current size within 5-10 years. The department has an enviable and strong relationship with industry, including over 30 companies and individuals working in partnership as the Civil Engineering Institute (http://civil.gmu.edu/about-cei), a unique organization formed to support the mission and vision of the department.
