> Postdoctoral Position on Lab Gas-Particle Partitioning using ToF-CIMS
> A postdoctoral position is available in the Jimenez Group in CIRES and the Dept. of Chemistry at the University of Colorado-Boulder (http://cires1.colorado.edu/jimenez/ <http://cires1.colorado.edu/jimenez/>), collaboratively with the Ziemann group ([https://sites.google.com/site/ziemanngroup/group <https://sites.google.com/site/ziemanngroup/group>). The successful candidate will investigate gas-particle partitioning of organic species in the laboratory, including how the dynamics and equilibria are affected by particle composition and phase state, molecular identity, humidity, temperature, OA, and other factors. A large suite of start-of-the-art instrumentation is available for the project, within two highly dynamic research groups. The key tool will be a real-time High-Resolution Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometer (CIMS) including a FIGAERO and other inlets, I-, acetate, and NO3- sources, and a new Ion Mobility Spectrometer-CIMS. Participation in field studies and other ongoing projects is also possible. The position will involve extensive use of the new CU Atmospheric Chamber Facility ([http://tinyurl.com/chamber-cu <http://tinyurl.com/chamber-cu>), and also some computer modeling of partitioning equilibrium and kinetics.
> Background information about the research group, techniques, and previous publications and projects is available at the Jimenez Group Web Page (http://cires1.colorado.edu/jimenez/ <http://cires1.colorado.edu/jimenez/>). Boulder is a great place to live (see https://vimeo.com/181645979 <https://vimeo.com/181645979>), and it also houses the greatest concentration of atmospheric scientists in the world, thanks to the combined strengths of CU (http://cires1.colorado.edu/jimenez/Analytical/atmos.html <http://cires1.colorado.edu/jimenez/Analytical/atmos.html>) and the NOAA (http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/csd/ <http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/csd/>) and NCAR (https://www2.acom.ucar.edu/ <https://www2.acom.ucar.edu/>) National Labs.
> A Ph.D. in chemistry, atmospheric sciences, environmental engineering, or a related discipline is required. Skills in the operation and data interpretation for advanced chemical instrumentation, ideally CIMS, are important. Experience with mass spectrometry, vacuum technology, aerosol instrumentation, as well as computer programming and/or complex data analysis (especially Igor Pro) are highly desirable. Experience with laboratory or field studies of atmospheric chemistry is also desirable. Independence, drive and collaboration will be encouraged in order to develop the candidate’s career.
> To apply, please submit an application via this CU Careers Link (https://cu.taleo.net/careersection/jobdetail.ftl?job=07063 <https://cu.taleo.net/careersection/jobdetail.ftl?job=07063>), with a cover letter describing your research interests, a CV, date of availability, 2-3 first-author journal papers in PDF, and a list of 4-5 references who are very familiar with your research work. The initial appointment will be for one year (potentially starting before the end of 2016, depending on candidate availability), with the expectation of annual renewal for two additional years upon satisfactory performance. The University of Colorado is an equal opportunity employer.
> Note that another postdoc position on Indoor Air Chemistry measurements w/ ToF-CIMS is expected to be available in early 2017.
