*PhD opportunity in large-scale atmospheric dynamics at the University
of Bergen*

We’d like to draw your attention to an open PhD position (3 years) in
large-scale atmospheric dynamics at the Geophysical Institute,
University of Bergen and the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research. The
position is connected to a project on "Dynamics of Arctic-Midlatitude
Teleconnections: Mechanisms, robustness and tropical modulation" funded
by the Research Council of Norway. The application deadline is 1
November 2016.

This project takes a dynamics-based approach to investigate whether the
rapidly changing climate in the Arctic is altering midlatitude
atmospheric circulation. Though there are many theories for how
Arctic-midlatitude teleconnections operate, there is as of yet no
consensus about their importance relative to other influences (e.g., the
tropics, the stratosphere). The answer to
this question is essential
for understanding both year-to-year variations in regional climate and
weather extremes, and projecting how these will change in a warming
world. The successful candidate will use reanalysis data and numerical
models to identify and evaluate candidate mechanisms.

For more details about the positions, instructions on how to submit an
application, and contact information, please see:
