Please circulate this announcement for a two-year postdoc position focused
on developing short term forecasts of Pacific hake distribution in the
California Current Ecosystem.

The Cooperative Institute for Marine Resources Studies (CIMRS) is
recruiting for a Research Associate (Post Doc). This is a full-time (1.0
FTE), 12-month, fixed-term position. Funding is available for one year for
research in fisheries oceanography and stock assessment with a second year
of funding available through the National Research Council.

The goal of the project is to develop short-term forecast models of Pacific
hake (*Merluccius productus*) habitat distribution based on *in situ*
observations
of ocean conditions. The habitat models will be parameterized and validated
using survey data for Pacific hake off the U.S. west coast. The models will
be forced with seasonal lead-time forecasts of oceanographic variables
produced by J-SCOPE (www.nanoos.org/products/jscope/) to provide weekly to
monthly forecasts of hake distribution. The project outcomes will focus on
providing methodology that can be used to improve acoustic survey design,
stock assessments and management planning.

This is a collaborative project with investigators from NOAA NWFSC (Dr.
Mary Hunsicker, Dr. Melissa Haltuch, Dr. Sandy Parker-Stetter, Dr. Rick
Brodeur, Dr. Isaac Kaplan), U. Washington (Dr. Samantha Siedlecki, Dr. Jan
Newton), and PMEL/JISAO (Dr. Nick Bond, Dr. Albert Hermann), which will
require working closely with investigators at facilities in Newport, OR and
Seattle, WA.

Job location: Newport, OR, Corvallis, OR, or Seattle, WA.

Closing date: November 30, 2016
