Dear colleagues,

I would greatly appreciate your help in diffusing this position advert to any interested and qualified candidates.

The Environmental Geochemistry Lab in the Institute of Earth Surface Dynamics at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) is recruiting a highly motivated PhD students to begin in Winter 2017. The project, which is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, involves developing ECAR-- a low-cost and sustainable technology based on electrolytic dissolution of Fe(0) for arsenic removal. In this project we will investigate the use of ECAR for removal of Mn in the presence and absence of As, as well for the removal of selected organic contaminants. We focus on Mn because it often co-occurs with As in groundwater and because elevated concentrations of Mn in drinking water supplies have recently been associated with neurological effects. The ideal candidate will be interested in water quality and water chemistry, as well as using an experimental approach to resolve reaction kinetics and mechanisms.
