*PhD position in Biogeochemistry at Lund University, Sweden*
*Deadline for application:* 1 June 2016
*Starting date:* 1 September 2016 or by agreement.

The PhD project will investigate the large stores of biologically derived
biogenic silica accumulating in lakes and examine the formation of
diatomite deposits driven by diverse mechanisms. More specifically, the
project will investigate the stable Si isotopic composition of
Si-depositing organisms and materials from lakes that are currently
accumulating modern diatomite. Since the accumulation of diatomites and
their relationship to volcanically derived Si fluxes is unclear, the focus
will initially be on lakes with volcanic sources of dissolved silica and
include determination of the long-term variations in hydrothermal
inputs. The application should include 1) a letter with motivation on why
the student wants to undertake a Ph.D. in this area, 2) a CV with
general personal information, and 3) details of previous study/work record.
The project is partly financed by a grant from the Swedish Research Council.

Keywords: Biogeochemistry, silica isotopes, paleoecology
