The Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium for Research and Education=20=

(LUMCON) seeks to hire at least three new Assistant Professors in the fir=
st=20
phase of multi-year faculty expansion. We seek candidates in the followin=
g=20
areas of coastal science: fisheries ecology, coastal hydrology/physical=20=

oceanography, plant ecology, biological oceanography, microbial ecology, =
and=20
marine chemistry. Candidates should have notable research achievements,=20=

demonstration of funded research, or potential for funded research, and a=
=20
commitment to education and outreach.

The LUMCON DeFelice Marine Center (http://www.lumcon.edu) is located=20
approximately 2 hours southwest of New Orleans at the upper end of Terreb=
onne=20
Bay in the Mississippi River delta plain between the Atchafalaya and=20
Mississippi rivers. LUMCON's unique locality encompasses numerous habitat=
s in=20
the Mississippi River Delta/Gulf of Mexico ecosystem, including extensive=
=20
marshes, estuaries, rivers large and small, and the open Gulf of Mexico=20=

benthic and pelagic systems. The Center facilities include a seawater sys=
tem,=20
multiple wet labs, and a racetrack flume with laser Doppler profiler, sta=
te-
of-the art environmental chambers, extensive aquaculture facilities and=20=

toxicology lab, a marsh mesocosm facility under development, and fleet of=
=20
research vessels. Preference will be given to candidates who can clearly=20=

demonstrate a research program that maximizes the locality and research=20=

assets of the DeFelice Marine Center.=20

In addition, LUMCON represents a consortium of university and colleges ac=
ross=20
the State of Louisiana. The successful candidate will build a collaborati=
ve=20
program with faculty at the DeFelice Marine Center and across the consort=
ium=20
of universities and colleges.=20

The position carries a 9-month salary. The initial appointment is for thr=
ee=20
years; following a review, the contract may be renewed for three more yea=
rs.=20
A six-year review similar to tenure is conducted for promotion to Associa=
te=20
Professor with a six-year appointment, but LUMCON is not a tenure-grantin=
g=20
institution.=20
