General Notes

This system will support research in regional water cycle processes, aid 
water management decision support, wildfire hazard and agricultural 
productivity assessments, etc. The position offers ample opportunity for 
research in regional water cycle processes. Accessible facilities 
include a direct-broadcast satellite receiving system _ TACC 
supercomputers, and a community of space mission analysts.

      Additional Information

Purpose

Contribute to the development of a remote-sensing based water cycle 
information system focused on the Southwestern USA and northern Mexico, 
extensible to central North America; integrating diverse remote-sensing 
observations and model-based data sets; spanning the real-time, seasonal 
and decadal time-scales.

Essential Functions

Research and development of the architecture and prototype elements of a 
water-cycle information system for the regions of interest. The system 
will enable research, data assessment and information delivery for 
different applications and water cycle studies. Incorporate diverse data 
sets within a common spatio-temporal framework. Prepare manuscripts for 
scientific publication. Help conceptualize and write grant applications 
in this and related areas of research. Supervise student research in 
allied topics.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

PhD in relevant engineering disciplines or natural sciences within last 
three years. Two or more of the following: (i) Knowledge of, or a record 
of water cycle research in the region of interest; (ii) Knowledge of 
remote-sensing methods, for example, for mass-flux (GRACE), vegetation 
(NDVI), precipitation; etc (iii) Familiarity with the land-surface and 
atmospheric model data sets; (iv) Knowledge of the development of 
information delivery systems for decision support.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent communication skills, with a strong publication record. Should 
be self-motivated, and demonstrate desire and ability to work with 
others individually and in a collaborative environment.

Working conditions

May work around standard office conditions Repetitive use of a keyboard 
at a workstation

A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) 
under consideration for this position.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of 
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week 
and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect 
the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead ofTRS, subject to the 
position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
