Hello

We have the following position available:

*Postdoctoral Position on Global Organic Aerosol Modeling using NCAR CESM,
Posted 20-Dec-2016*

A postdoctoral position is available in the Jimenez Group in CIRES and the
Dept. of Chemistry at the University of Colorado-Boulder (
http://cires1.colorado.edu/jimenez/), collaboratively with Alma Hodzic (
https://staff.ucar.edu/users/alma) and Louisa Emmons (
https://staff.ucar.edu/users/emmons) at the NCAR Atmospheric Chemistry
Observations and Modeling Laboratory (https://www2.acom.ucar.edu/). The
successful candidate will investigate the sources, properties, processing,
and fate of organic aerosols (OA) using the NCAR Climate Earth System Model
(CESM). CESM will then be used to investigate the OA sources and fate under
future climate scenarios. The OA mechanism in CESM has been recently
updated (as in Hodzic et al. ACP (2016) http://www.atmos-chem-phys.net
/16/7917/2016/), and additional updates for isoprene chemistry will be
implemented (e.g. following Marais et al. (2016)
http://www.atmos-chem-phys.net/16/1603/2016/). The OA simulations will be
compared to unique data from the NASA ATom project (
https://espo.nasa.gov/home/atom/content/ATom) acquired by the Jimenez Group
as well as other available aircraft and ground datasets.

A Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences, chemistry, physics, environmental
engineering, or a related discipline is required. Experience with computer
modeling in FORTRAN, in particular for regional or global models is needed.
Experience in complex data analysis using for example NCL, IDL, Python,
Igor Pro, Matlab is highly desirable. Independence, drive and collaboration
are important and will be encouraged in order to develop the candidate’s
career.

Background information about the research groups and previous publications
and projects is available at the Jimenez Group (
http://cires1.colorado.edu/jimenez/), Hodzic (https://staff.ucar.edu/users/
alma) and Emmons (https://staff.ucar.edu/users/emmons) web pages. Boulder
is a great place to live (see https://vimeo.com/181645979), and it also
houses the greatest concentration of atmospheric scientists and chemists in
the world, thanks to the combined strengths of CU (e.g.
http://cires1.colorado.edu/jimenez/Analytical/atmos.html), and the NCAR (
https://www2.acom.ucar.edu/) and NOAA (http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/csd/)
National Labs.

To apply, please submit an application via email to <
jose.jimenez at colorado.edu> and <alma at ucar.edu>, with a cover letter
describing your research interests, a CV, date of availability, 2-3
first-author journal papers in PDF (submitted papers can also be included),
and a list of 4-5 references who are very familiar with your research work.
The initial appointment will be for one year, with the expectation of
renewal for a second year upon satisfactory performance. The University of
Colorado is an equal opportunity employer.

Review of applications will start on 15-Jan-2017, and continue until the
position is filled. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply as soon as
possible. If that is not possible, please email Jose and Alma to alert us
that your application is coming and the expected completion date.
