the Environment is a dynamic academic unit housed in the College of=20
Liberal Arts and Sciences with a growing undergraduate program and a new=20=

graduate program, representing Villanova=92s strong investments in=20
research and infrastructure, and a longstanding commitment to excellence=20=

in teaching.=20=20

To contribute to continued Departmental growth and broaden our teaching=20=

and research programs, we seek the following:=20

Position 1, Environmental Scientist: We seek an environmental scientist=20=

who complements existing strengths in ecosystems ecology and=20
biogeochemistry and will broaden the scope of expertise among the=20
faculty. The successful candidate will develop and teach lecture and=20
laboratory environmental science courses for undergraduate and graduate=20=

students and possibly non-science students, at the introductory level=20
and also within their scientific area of expertise. A Ph.D. in=20
Environmental Science or closely related discipline is required and=20
teaching experience and/or post-doctoral experience is preferred.

Position 2, Environmental Geographer: We seek a broadly trained=20
environmental geographer who complements existing strengths in=20
sustainability, environmental change, and geospatial technology within=20=

the Department, and who will support the growth of the undergraduate and=20=

graduate programs. Preference will be given to applicants with a=20
regional focus outside the U.S. and to those who understand and have=20
facility with geo=96spatial technologies. The successful candidate will=20=

develop and teach undergraduate geography courses and relevant elective=20=

courses to graduate students. A Ph.D. in geography is required, and=20
teaching experience is preferred.=20

Position 3, Geographer and GIS Specialist: We invite applications for a=20=

tenure=96track Assistant Professor with a specialty in Geographic=20
Information Systems (GIS), who utilizes GIS and other geospatial=20
technologies as a major component of their research. The successful=20
candidate will develop a robust geospatial research and teaching program=20=

that incorporates undergraduate and graduate student research, and will=20=

teach undergraduate and advanced GIS and geography courses in their=20
subject area. A Ph.D. is required, and teaching and/or post-doctoral=20
experience is preferred.

Teaching responsibilities for all positions will include lecture and/or=20=

laboratory courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Teaching=20=

obligations are 15 credit hours per year divided into a 3/2 teaching=20
load. The positions will require the development and teaching of course=20=

material and the supervision of undergraduate and graduate student=20
research. Preference will be given to candidates with promising=20
research programs including extramural funding, and the potential for=20
publication in prominent outlets. We are especially interested in=20
candidates whose teaching will contribute to the Department's commitment=20=

to diversity and academic excellence.

The Department of Geography and the Environment is a multidisciplinary=20=

department with three undergraduate majors: Geography (BA),=20
Environmental Studies (BA), and Environmental Science (BS). The=20
Department currently has 9 faculty members and approximately 95=20
undergraduate majors along with two interdisciplinary minor programs.=20=20=

The Department=92s new Environmental Science (MS) master=92s program will=
=20
begin during the fall 2016 semester. The University=92s commitment to an=
d=20

and research laboratories to complement its existing GIS, teaching, and=20=

research facilities during the next two academic years.=20=20

statement of teaching philosophy, a statement of research experience and=20=

plans, curriculum vitae, and official graduate and undergraduate=20
transcripts. The names and contact information for three referees are=20=

required and must be included. Referees will be contacted directly and=20=
