*FACULTY POSITION*

*DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL*

*ENGINEERING*

*University of California, Riverside*

*Bourns College of Engineering*

The University of California, Riverside (UCR) invites applications for a
faculty position at any rank (tenure-track or tenured position) beginning
the 2016/17 academic year. Candidates with an exceptional research,
teaching and service record will be considered at all levels. We are
seeking a highly motivated and interdisciplinary researcher with a strong
background and experience in chemical and environmental engineering, with
an interest in pursuing solutions to global grand challenges. The
successful candidate is expected to launch and maintain an independent,
externally funded research program within the Chemical and Environmental
Engineering Department, with a preference for expertise in the broader
field of water quality engineering. Multiple, campus-wide collaborative
initiatives are available for further leverage, including the College of
Engineering’s Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT),
the Center for Agriculture and Food Enterprise (CAFÉ), and UCR’s new School
of Public Policy.

The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering has approximately
425 undergraduate students, 100 graduate students, and 19 tenure-track
faculty. Candidates are expected to contribute to research, teaching and
service loads of the University Senate. Specifically, candidates should be
able to teach chemical and environmental engineering courses at
undergraduate and graduate levels. We seek candidates who are firmly
committed to both undergraduate and graduate education, and who will engage
in a rigorous research program. Additionally, the Department intends to
further develop a water technology center that will make UCR the leader in
novel, sustainable technological approaches for water use, recovery, and
reuse for Southern California and beyond, and this hire will play a crucial
role in this undertaking.

*Exceptional candidates in all areas of chemical and environmental
engineering will be considered, with preference given to those with
interdisciplinary expertise in areas including, but not limited to:
*the water-energy-food
nexus, environmental biotechnology, and advanced materials for water
treatment, and water management for future “smart” and resilient cities.

The successful candidate should hold a doctoral degree in engineering or a
closely related field by the start of service with an outstanding academic
record. He/she will conduct independent research, advise undergraduate and
graduate students, and collaborate with other BCOE faculty and research
staff. Post-doctoral experience is desirable but not required. We are
particularly interested in attracting academically and culturally diverse
candidates, especially those who can contribute to the growing diversity
and excellence of the community through their teaching, scholarship, and
service.

UCR is a world-class research university with an exceptionally diverse
undergraduate student body. Its mission is explicitly linked to providing
routes to educational success for underrepresented and first-generation
college students. A commitment to this mission is a preferred qualification.

Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is
through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every
2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.

Full consideration will be given to applications received by December 21,
2015. We will continue to consider applications until the positions are
filled. To apply, please register through the weblink at
http://www.engr.ucr.edu/facultysearch/.

UCR is embarking on a major new hiring initiative that will add 300 tenured
and tenure-track positions. Over the next three years, we will hire
faculty members in multi-disciplinary areas and invest in research
infrastructure to support their work. This initiative will build critical
mass in vital fields of scholarship, foster truly cross-disciplinary work
and further diversify the faculty at one of America’s most diverse research
universities. We encourage applications from scholars committed to
excellence and seeking to help redefine the research university for the
next generation.

The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action
Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for
employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual
orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability protected
veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
