Hello,
I am resending this job posting since it looks like the previous did not upload correctly.
Please see job description below:

Sincerely,
Diana Arrendale

Assistant/Associate Professor, Remote Sensing Science

The University of Nevada, Reno is a US News and World Report ranked national Tier 1 university currently entering a phase of rapid expansion, with plans to add up to 300 tenure-track positions over the next five years. As integral components of the University, the Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station and College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources seek to hire a faculty member in Remote Sensing Science and Geospatial Analysis. This nine-month, tenure-track position is a Frank R. & Joan Randall Endowed Professorship in Natural Resources and Environmental Science, and can be hired at the rank of either Assistant or Associate Professor.

Candidates should have expertise in quantification of key natural resources in dryland landscapes using remote sensing in combination with relevant geospatial applications or spatially-explicit process models. The successful candidate will establish a rigorous, innovative, and extramurally funded research program with a strong remote sensing emphasis that is nationally recognized, while also demonstrating a commitment to seek interdisciplinary solutions to applied resource management problems pertinent to the region (Nevada, Great Basin, Sierra Nevada).

Potential areas of research focus include (but are not limited to) data integration across multiple sensors and platforms (e.g. lidar, multi- and hyperspectral, thermal, UAVs); plant productivity, vigor and stress; forest, rangeland, and riparian condition; fire and fuels monitoring and other anthropogenic and natural disturbances; global environmental change and drought; water use and availability; and biomass/carbon modeling. The successful candidate will conduct multi-scale research that spans agricultural, urban and managed wildland systems. Teaching responsibilities include an undergraduate remote sensing course as well as one or more graduate courses relevant to the needs of department, college and interdisciplinary PhD programs, and in an area of the candidate's expertise.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Science is one of the premier research units on campus. The Department has over 430 undergraduates, 60 graduate students, 18 full-time faculty, and an annual average of $4.4 million in awards from state, regional and national funding competitions. NRES is an interdisciplinary department with strengths in landscape ecology, fate and transport of contaminants in the environment, ecology and conservation of wildlife and their habitats, range and forest ecology, ecohydrology and water quality management, conservation genetics, plant population biology and physiological ecology, soil science, ecological restoration, and ecosystem modeling. The Department maintains a Master's of Science program and offers doctoral degrees through four interdisciplinary graduate programs managed by the University of Nevada (Ecology Evolution and Conservation Biology; Graduate Program of Hydrologic Sciences; Environmental Sciences and Health; Atmospheric Sciences).

A land grant university, UNR is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a high research, comprehensive doctoral university, and as "among the best national universities" by US News and World Report. Reno is located in the Sierra Nevada mountains near Lake Tahoe and was recently rated one of the best small cities in the US for outdoor recreation and overall quality of life.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. by hire date with specialization in remote sensing, geography, ecology or closely related fields in the geosciences, natural resources, environmental or agricultural sciences; strong

publication record; potential for excellence in teaching; expertise that complements and expands the research capacity of the department.

Preferred Qualifications: Postdoctoral or equivalent postgraduate experience and demonstrated ability to develop a nationally-competitive research program. Teaching experience.
