*Environmental Microbiology Lab Manager - Stanford Careers Job #69212*

The Dekas Laboratory at Stanford University seeks a research scientist to
participate in cutting-edge research as well as oversee daily functioning
of the laboratory. Research responsibilities may include local field
sampling, set up and sampling of manipulation experiments, RNA/DNA
extraction and processing, epifluorescence microscopy, cell culture, and
geochemical and isotopic analyses. Managerial responsibilities will include
purchase, set up and maintenance of laboratory equipment and software,
managing supply of disposables, maintaining a safe working environment,
enforcing laboratory safety protocols, and orienting new lab members.
Enthusiasm for learning, leading organizational efforts, and contributing
to a positive group dynamic is essential. Prior work experience in a
molecular biology, microbiology, and/or geomicrobiology lab is required.

Applicants seeking either full or part-time work will be considered, and
should indicate their preference in their cover letter. Applicants should
also indicate their preferred start date; requested start dates between
January and June 2016 will be considered.

The Dekas Laboratory is part of the Earth System Science Department within
the School of Earth, Energy and Environmental Science at Stanford
University. The Lab investigates the activity of bacteria and archaea in
the modern marine environment with the goal of understanding its role in
the evolution of our atmosphere and the future of our climate. More

*Minimum Job Qualifications:*
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related scientific field
• Three years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education
and relevant work experience
• Comprehensive understanding of appropriate scientific principles
• General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer
programs, databases and scientific applications
• Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment
• Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance
• Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately
complete, and provide documentation for, detailed work
