The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences seeks an exceptional scholar in the area of Watershed Science. The successful candidate will have a record, or emerging record, of exceptional research and be expected to develop a strong collaborative program at the University of Alberta focused broadly on the science of water resources. Applicants should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: cold regions hydrology/hydrogeology, surface and groundwater interactions, fluvial geomorphology, geomatics as applied to water resources, biogeochemical and nutrient cycling in watersheds, or isotope hydrology/hydrogeology. The CAIP Chair is expected to develop interactions with industrial partners, government and academic research partners in Alberta focused on water resources in western and/or northern Canada. This appointment will be either at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, but in exceptional circumstances a Full Professor will be considered. The CAIP Chair comes with a generous research budget for seven years. 

With over 50 active faculty, the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences has strength in areas of Environmental Earth Sciences, including hydrogeology, remote sensing, Quaternary geoscience, glaciology, geochemistry, and atmospheric science. The Department also includes a strong core in Solid Earth Sciences and a group of social scientists actively engaged in environmental research in the Human Geography and Planning programs. The successful candidate will contribute to these strengths by developing an active research program that includes supervising graduate students, collaborating with other faculty members, obtaining external funding, and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. The Department is equipped with outstanding analytical facilities for stable isotope analysis, radiogenic isotopes, and major and trace element composition, including the new Canadian Centre for isotopic Microanalysis.

Applicants must hold a PhD in a related area and have an established or emerging research program in an academic or industrial setting in one of these areas. Applicants must have a track record of publications and the potential for attracting external funding to support their research program.
