Postdoctoral Researcher – Saanich Inlet Redox Experiment

Applications are being accepted for a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher to work with Dr. Roberta Hamme, Dr. Jay Cullen, and Dr. David Turpin at University of Victoria examining redox species cycling in Saanich Inlet. The deep waters of Saanich Inlet are flushed each year and then move from oxygenated to strongly reducing again within several months. The goal of this multi-investigator project is to examine the temporal evolution of redox-sensitive species and their interrelationships. The successful candidate will lead an intensive time series of cruises in Saanich Inlet collecting multiple types of samples, conduct metal concentration and speciation measurements, and analyze/assist with other types of measurements such as dissolved gases and rate incubations.

This is a two-year position (subject to renewal after the first year) based in Victoria, BC, Canada. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in chemical oceanography or a closely related discipline by the start date. A background in trace metal measurements and conducting oceanographic fieldwork is highly desirable. The ability to work on small oceanographic vessels, to interact well in a group setting, and to communicate effectively (oral and written) is also required.

For questions about the position or to apply, please email Dr. Roberta Hamme at rhamme at uvic.ca<http://uvic.ca>. Applicants should submit a personal statement describing research experience and interests, a curriculum vitae, relevant peer-reviewed publications, and names and contact information of three referees. Evaluation of applications will begin immediately with an intended position start date in spring 2016. The University of Victoria is committed to providing an environment which protects and promotes the human rights and affirms the dignity of all persons, including those of diverse backgrounds and needs, and which provides equitable access to employment opportunities.
