Sedimentology

The University of Alabama Department of Geological Sciences



The Department of Geological Sciences at The University of Alabama invites applications for an Assistant Professor tenure-track faculty position in sedimentology beginning August 2015. Candidates must have a strong record of research and teaching, and must have received their Ph.D. in Geosciences at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an externally-funded research program, attract and supervise graduate students, and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in sedimentology/stratigraphy, and introductory geology. Seismic Stratigraphy

The University of Alabama Department of Geological Sciences

The Department of Geological Sciences at The University of Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in seismic stratigraphy, beginning August 2015. The position will be filled at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates are invited to apply who have specialties within the broad field of seismic stratigraphy. Energy industry experience is a plus. It is expected that this position will enhance our existing faculty research areas in geophysics, sedimentology, basin analysis, and petroleum geology. Candidates must have a strong record of research and teaching, and must have received a Ph.D. in geology, geophysics, or a related field, at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program and attract and advise high-quality graduate students. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses in her/his specialty and introductory geology. The department has a broad range of geophysical, geochemical, and computational facilities, in addition to University shared facilities, including the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. Departmental software includes industry standards such as ProMAX, Petrel, IHS Kingdom, Geosoft, ArcGIS, and Matlab.
