The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) in
Boulder, Colorado is seeking a professional research assistant with
significant programming experience to work in the NOAA Earth System
Research Laboratory/Physical Sciences Division (PSD). The candidate will
help develop improved methods for ensemble weather and hydrologic
prediction, including the development of post-processing methodologies and
methods for treating model uncertainty in global ensemble weather
prediction systems. This position will be located in Boulder, Colorado.

Responsibilities:
The applicant is expected to work with PSD staff to develop, test, and
implement experimental methods for improving ensemble weather and
hydrologic predictions for forecasts of 1-30 days lead time. She/he will:
(a) develop or adapt code for new methods of post-processing and/or methods
for treating model uncertainty in ensemble weather prediction systems; (b)
test and verify the skill of the subsequent weather/hydrologic predictions
using standard methods; (c) work with PSD staff to document and present the
results in the form of journal articles, seminars, and conference
presentations; and (d) develop applications for displaying forecast
information and verification statistics on the web.
