travel to East Africa (Tanzania, Kenya) and possibly other international

Position Description: We seek an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to
collaborate with a team of scientists and professionals working to improv=
e
water resources management in East Africa. FIU scientists have been
providing technical support for improving water security through integrat=
ed
water resources management for rivers worldwide for decades, and in the
Great Lakes Region of East Africa since 2005. To date, these efforts incl=
ude
full--&#8208;scale environmental water allocation recommendations for=
 three
East African rivers=97the Mara River in the Lake Victoria Basin, and the =
Wami
and Ruvu Rivers in Tanzania. Additionally, FIU scientists have facilitate=
d
courses in Tanzania on topics related to water security, like Methods for=

Environmental Water Allocations and GIS for Water Resources Management,
among others. These efforts have been realized in strong collaboration wi=
th
the Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC), the Tanzanian Ministry of Wate=
r,
and Tanzanian National Parks (TANAPA), and with scientists from the
University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Sokoine University of Agriculture in
Morogoro (SUA), and the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and=

Technology in Arusha (NM--&#8208;AIST).=20

The postdoc will be based with the International Research Programs office=
 of
FIU=92s School of Environment, Arts and Society (SEAS), and will work wit=
h
faculty and other postdocs in the Southeastern Environmental Research Cen=
ter
(SERC) and collaborators in East Africa. The primary role of the postdoc
will be to participate in studies to improve scientific understanding of
flow =96 ecology relationships for biota in East African wetland, estuary=
, and
freshwater environments. The postdoc will help provide leadership to team=
s
of US and East African researchers during multiple field campaigns, and w=
ill
assist with the establishment and maintenance of a network of
low--&#8208;cost sensors for monitoring water quality and quantity in=
 East
African rivers.
The postdoc will be responsible for systematizing, managing, and maintain=
ing
all data and information associated with FIU--&#8208;led water resour=
ces
management projects in East Africa. Additionally, the postdoc will be
expected to prepare manuscripts for publication in peer--&#8208; revi=
ewed
journals, technical reports for East African government collaborators, an=
d
short communications for diverse audiences.=20

Requirements: A PhD in an ecologically related discipline is required.
Previous international experience is not required, but is preferable.
Excellent oral and written communication skills (in English), adaptabilit=
y,
and experience managing complex datasets are essential. Experience with
previous research on flow--&#8208; ecology relationships, environment=
al flow
assessment, or ecology of tropical freshwaters is preferred. Applicants m=
