Post-doctoral Fellow in Environmental Consequences of Bioenergy Production

Description: Applications are invited for a post-doctoral fellow to examine the potential environmental effects of new bioenergy strategies within the Midwestern United States using sophisticated numerical models. The post-doctoral fellow will focus on understanding the effects of widespread bioenergy production on the biophysical, biogeochemical, hydrological, and atmospheric processes occurring on agricultural landscapes across the region; however, the broader goals of the project also include applications to economical consequences and life cycle assessment. The post-doctoral fellow will work with an interdisciplinary team of land surface scientists, ecologists, climatologists, agricultural scientists, industrial ecologists, and economists. The position is available September 2014 and is funded through the U.S. Department of Energy.

Required Qualifications: A Ph.D. in any Earth system science-related field with research relevant to climatology, ecology, and land surface processes, plus experience with computer modeling of biophysical or biogeochemical processes. Experience with the Weather Research and Forecast model is preferred but not required. Strong oral and written communication skills are required. The ability and desire to collaborate and work in a team environment with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate and undergraduate students is essential.

Salary and Benefits: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include employee health and dental insurance and social security.

Application: Applicants must submit their application materials online at https://employment.umn.edu requisition# 185325. Documents that must be attached include a current curriculum vitae, a letter of interest detailing related research experience and directions, and the names, phone numbers, and email addresses of three professional references.
