MSc and PhD positions at the University of Victoria, BC, Canada

M.Sc. and Ph.D. students are sought to be part of an "Active Tectonics 
and Geomorphology research group" within the School of Earth and Ocean 
Sciences at the University of Victoria, in Victoria, British Columbia, 
Canada, to begin in 2015 (www.kristinmorell.com). Students will be part 
of a fully funded research project, supported by Canada's National 
Science and Engineering Council (NSERC), that will focus on quantifying 
the linkages between geomorphology and active deformation in a study 
area in the Indian Himalaya. The project will involve month-long field 
campaigns in the Indian Himalaya, digital geologic and geomorphic 
mapping using high-precision GPS equipment, and GIS analyses derived 
from satellite images and digital elevation models. Students will be 
part of an international research team composed of Canadian and Indian 
scientists at the University of Victoria, the Jamia Millia Islamia 
University in Delhi, India, and the Wadia Institute of Himalayan 
Geology, in Dehra Dun, India. Candidates must have a M.Sc., B.A. or 
B.Sc. in the geosciences or related discipline and have an exceptional 
prior academic record. Prior experience with academic writing, and 
previous research experience in tectonic geomorphology, 
stratigraphy/sedimentology, structural geology and/or geomorphology is 
preferred.

The School of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of Victoria 
(seos.uvic.ca) has over 60 graduate students with >20 faculty who are 
experts across a diverse range of sub-disciplines in the Earth and Ocean 
Sciences. The University of Victoria is located in Victoria, British 
Columbia, on the southern tip of Vancouver Island in southwestern 
Canada, among a region which is known for its beautiful scenery and
