Wed Apr 30 10:29:15 MDT 2014

A postdoctoral research position is available at the University of
Michigan in the research group of Prof. Kerri Pratt in the Department of
Chemistry and Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences. Our
research interests focus on the chemical interactions of atmospheric
trace gases, particles, clouds, and precipitation with the cryosphere
and biosphere to understand processes associated with air quality and
climate change.

The successful candidate will play a leadership role in several,
interdisciplinary research projects, primarily focused on atmospheric
chemistry in the Arctic and northern Michigan through field-based
measurements. In particular, the position will include assisting in the
construction of a single-particle mass spectrometer and use of a
chemical ionization mass spectrometer. While in the Pratt lab, the
successful candidate will also have opportunities to be exposed to ion
chromatography, additional mass spectrometry methods, one-dimensional
atmospheric modeling, and electron microscopy.

The successful candidate is expected to have a PhD in chemistry,
chemical engineering, atmospheric science, environmental science, or a
related area. The successful candidate should have prior experience
with mass spectrometry and/or instrument development and data analysis
programs (Igor and/or Matlab preferred). Familiarity with LabView and
experience conducting field measurements is preferred, as well as
interest in mentoring undergraduate and young graduate students. The
successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with
several environmental chemistry groups across the University of Michigan
(e.g., Department of Environmental Health Sciences and Department of
Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Sciences). The position is expected to
be for two years; initial appointment will be for one year, with likely
renewal, pending demonstrated progress. Preferred start date is in
summer or early fall 2014.

To apply, please send a cover letter (describing your research
experience and interests, as well as anticipated date of availability),
CV, and names/contact information for 3 references to Prof. Kerri Pratt,
email: prattka at umich.edu.
