Vacancy: PhD position in terrestrial carbon cycle model optimisation at
Lund University, Sweden

The Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science is has an
opening
for a PhD student with a strong background in Physical Geography and
Ecosystems Analysis, Geoecology, Environmental Engineering, mathematics or
physics to work with model-data fusion methods on optimising terrestrial
CO2
fluxes using the LPJ-GUESS dynamic vegetation model.

The PhD student will carry out research within the project "Spatio-temporal
statistical methods for inverse modelling of CO2 fluxes" which is a
collaboration involving 4-5 senior scientists and one additional PhD
student
at the Departments of Mathematical Statistics and Physical Geography and
Ecosystem Science.

The student will work with and refine established data assimilation
techniques to exploit the complementary strengths of ecosystem flux
measurements, remote sensing data and process-based ecosystem modelling in
terms of quantifying and upscaling ecosystem CO2 fluxes from forest stands
and surrounding landscapes to a braoder regional scale.

The PhD position is for 4 years, with a preferred starting date of 1
Februar
2014.

Closing date for applications: 30 November 2013
